Does Does Not

He who does not do the morning Sandhyâ and the evening Sandhyâ, is driven away from all the Brâhminic Karmas and he becomes like S’ûdras.

He who does Sandhyâ three times throughout his life,
  1. becomes like the Sun by his lustre and brilliance of tapas.
  2. What more than this, the earth is always purified by the dust of his feet.
The Dvîja who does his Sandhyâ Bandanam and remains pure,
  1. becomes energetic and liberated while living.
  2. By his contact all the Tîrthas become purified.
  3. All sins vanish away from him as snakes fly away at the sight of Garuda.
The Dvîja who becomes void of Sandhyâ three times a day,
  1. the Devas do not accept his worship nor
  2. the Pitris accept his Pindas.
He who has no Bhakti towards the Mûla Prakriti, who does not worship the specific seed Mantra of Mâyâ and who does not hold festivities in honour of Mûla Prakriti, know him verily to be an Ajagara snake without poison.

Devoid of the
  1. Visnu mantra,
  2. three Sandhyâs and
  3. fasting on the Ekâdas’i Tithi (the eleventh clay of the fortnight),
the Brâhmin becomes a snake devoid of poison. The vile Brâhmin who does not like to take the offerings dedicated to Hari and who does the washerman’s work and eats the food of S’ûdra and drives the buffaloes, becomes a snake devoid of poison. The Brâhmin who burns the dead bodies of the S’ûdras, becomes like the man who is the husband of an unmarried girl. The Brâhmin also who becomes a cook of a S’ûdra, becomes a snake void of poison. The Brâhmin who accepts the gifts of a S’ûdra, who performs the sacrifice of a S’ûdra, who lives as clerks and warriors becomes like a snake void of poison. The Brâhmin who sells his daughter, who sells the name of Hari or eats the food of a woman who is without husband and son, as well as of one who has just bathed after her menstruation period, becomes like a serpent void of poison. The Brâhmin who takes the profession of pimps and pampers and lives on the interest, is also like a serpent void of poison. The Brâhmin who sleeps even when the Sun has risen, eats fish, and does not worship the Devî is also like a poisonless serpent.

Thus stating all the rules of worship in order, the best of the Munis

told him the Dhyânam, etc., of the Devî Sâvitrî, what he wanted. Then he informed the King of all the mantras and went to his own Âs’rama. The king, then worshipped accordingly and saw the Devî Sâvitrî and got boons.

Karna

Though Indra came in the guise of a Brahmin,Karna knew he was Indra himself. Suryadev informed Karna about Indra's Visit to him for the sake of his armour

Sankhchuda

Lord Vishnu in the guise of a beggar (an old brahmin) appeared before the great daitya. He knew the kindly nature and generosity of Sankhchuda and so made an earnest request and revealed the inner wish, and insisted on the armour the daitya had put on. Sankhchuda could not refuse and therefore, offered divine armour to the brahmin. He was a learned man but failed to recognize Sri Hari in the guise of an old brahmin. Thus, Vishnu deprived Sankhchuda of a great divine possession

Word

In the epic Mahabharata, Pratarddana is said to be the son of Divodasa who was the king Benaras.

Immediately after the birth of Pratarddana, he grew up like a boy of full three and ten years and quickly mastered the entire Vedas and the whole of arms. Bharadwaja, by his Yoga powers, of great intelligence entered into the prince. Indeed, collecting all the energy that occurs in the object of the universe, Bharadwaja put them together in the body of prince Pratarddana. Put on shining mail on his person and armed with the bow, Pratarddana, his praises sung by bards and the celestial Rishis, shone resplendent like the risen star of day. Pratarddana riding on his car and with the scimitar tied to his belt, he shone like a blazing fire.

Pratarddana carrying his scimitar and shield and rotating his shield as he went advanced to the presence of his sire. Beholding the prince, the son of Sudeva, king Divodasa, became filled with joy. The old king, Divodasa thought that the son of his enemy Vitahavya was already killed. Divodasa then established his son Pratarddana as Yuvraj or Prince, and regarding himself crowned with success became very happy.

After this, the old king commanded that chastiser of foes, the prince Pratarddana to march against the sons of Vitahavya and slay them in battle. Pratarddana speedily crossed Ganga on his chariot and proceeded against the city of the Vitahavya. Hearing the clatter produced by the wheels of his car, the sons of Vitahavya, riding on their own cars that looked like fortified citadels and that were capable of destroying hostile vehicles threw them out of their city.

The sons of Vitahavya, who were all expert warriors cased rushed with uplifted weapons towards Pratarddana, covering him with showers of arrows. Encompassing him with innumerable cars, Yudhisthira, the Vitahavyas poured upon Pratarddana showers of weapons of various kinds like clouds pouring torrents of rain on the breast of Himavat.

Prince Pratarddana endowed with magical powers killed the followers and sons of them Vitahavya with his shafts that resembled the lighting fire of Indra. Vitahavya was very afraid when he saw all his warriors with hundreds and thousands of broad-headed arrows fell down with blood-dyed bodies like Kinsuka trees felled by woodmen with their axes on every side. After all his warriors and sons had fallen in battle, king Vitahavya fled away from his capital to the retreat of Bhrigu. Indeed, arrived there, the royal fugitive sought the protection of Bhrigu.

Pratarddana followed in the footsteps of Vitahavya. Arrived at the Rishi's retreat, Pratarddana said in a loud voice that he wanted to meet Vitahavya. Recognizing that it was Pratarddana who had come, the Rishi Bhrigu himself came out of his retreat and worshipped that best of kings according to due rites. Addressing him then, the Rishi asked Pratarddana what he wanted. The king, at this, informed the Rishi of the reason of his presence, that he wanted Vitahavya. He wanted to kill Vitahavya because he had slaughtered the whole race of Pratarddana. The Vitahavyas had damaged and ruined the territories and the wealth of the kingdom of Kasi.

Pratarddana was proud and satisfied to kill the hundred sons of Vitahavya. And finally by killing Vitahavya he can pay back the debt he owed to his father, Divodasa. Rishi Bhrigu reacted compassionately and said that in his hermitage there was no Kshatriya in this retreat and only Brahmans are present. Hearing these words of Bhrigu that must accord he thought with truth, Pratarddana touched the Rishi's feet slowly and, filled with delight, said that he is very grateful for his powers and that the sage must pray for his welfare.

Dismissed by the Rishi Bhrigu, king Pratarddana then departed from that retreat, having even as a snake vomits forth its real poison and repaired to the place he had come from. Meanwhile, king Vitahavya attained to the status of a Brahmana sage by virtue of the words only of Bhrigu. And he acquired also a complete mastery over all the Vedas through the same cause.

Vitahavya had a son named Gritsamada who in beauty of person was a second Indra. Once on a time the Daityas troubled him much, believing him to be none else than Indra. Gritsamada become a regenerate Rishi in the observance of Brahmacharya. Gritsamada had a regenerated son, of the name of Sutejas.

Kaliyuga starts by curse of Brahmin on Parikshit

Astika

At that time, a learned sage named Astika, a boy in age, came and interfered. His mother Manasa was a Naga and his father a Brahmin. Janamejaya had to listen to the words of the learned Astika and set the then-imprisoned Takshaka free. He also stopped the massacre of the Nagas and ended all enmity with them (1,56). From that time onward, the Nagas and Kurus lived in peace. The mass sacrifice was started on the banks of the river Arind at Bardan, now Known as Parham, a corrupt form of Parikshitgarh. A masonry tank (reservoir) said to have been built by Emperor Janamejaya to mark the site of the sacrificial pit, known as Parikshit kund, still exists in Mainpuri district. This is known as Gowdvana. Close to this village a very large and high khera containing the ruins of a fort and some stone sculptures has been found. It is said to date back to the time of Emperor Parikshit. A popular local legend is that as a consequence of the virtues of that sacrifice snakes are still harmless in this place and its neighborhood.

Bhoja

According to Bhoja-Prabandha, early in his life, Bhoja suffered from intense headaches. Two Brahmin surgeons from Ujjain made him unconscious using an anaesthetic powder called moha-churna, opened his cranial bone, removed a tumor, and then made him regain his consciousness by administering another powder called sanjivani.

Dabir Khas and Sakar Mallik reclaimed

Upon His return to Puri, Raja Prataparudra Dev and several Pandit Brahmins joined the banner of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was now twenty-seven years of age. In his 28th year he went to Bengal as far as Gaud in Maldah.

There He picked up two greater personages named Rupa and Sanatan. Though descended from the lines of the Karnatik Brahmins, these two brothers turned out demi Musalmans by their continual contact with Hussain Shah, the then Emperor of Gaud. Their names had been changed by the Emperor into Dabir Khas and Sakar Mallik and their master loved them heartily, as they were both learned in Persian, Arabic and Sanskrit and were loyal servants of the state. The two gentlemen had found no way to come back as regular Hindus, and had written to Mahaprabhu. while He was at Puri for spiritual help. Mahaprabhu had written in reply that He would come to them and extricate them out of their spiritual difficulties. Now that He had come to Gaud, both the brothers appeared before Him with their long standing prayer. Mahaprabhu ordered them to go to Vrindavan and meet Him there.

Instructions to Rupa and Sanatan

Chaitanya returned to Puri through Santipur where He again met His dear mother. After a short stay at Puri, He left for Vrindavan. This time He was accompanied by one Balabhadra Bhattacharya. He visited Vrindavan and came down to Prayag (Allahabad,) converting a large number of Mohammedans not by the scriptures of Vaishnavism but by argument from the Quran. The descendants of those converts are still known as Pathan Vaishnavas. Rupa Gosvami met Him at Allahabad. Sri Chaitanya trained him up in spirituality in ten days and directed him to go to Vrindavan on missions. His first mission was to write theological works explaining scientifically pure Bhakti and Prem. The second mission was to revive the places where Krishna Chandra had, in the end of Dvapara yuga, exhibited His spirtual Lila for the benefit of the religious world. Rupa Gosvami left Allahabad for Vrindavan and Mahaprabhu came down to Benares. There He put up in the house of Chandrasekhar and accepted His daily bhiksha (meal) in the house of Tapan Misra. Here it was, that Sanatan Gosvami joined Him and took instruction for two months in spiritual matters.

The biographers, specially Krishnadas Kaviraj have given us details of Sri Chaitanya's teachings to Rupa and Sanatan. Krishnadas was not a contemporary writer, but he gathered his information from the Gosvamins themselves, the direct disciples of Mahaprabhu. Jiva Gosvami, who was nephew of Sanatan and Rupa and who has left us his invaluable work, the Sat-sandarbha, has philosophized on the precepts of his great Leader. We have gathered and summarized the precepts of Sri Chaitanya from the books of those great writers.
